T.E.N. Approach – TRAINING

In 2011, the UK Chief Medical Officers (CMOs) published revised guidelines for physical activity. For the first time the guidelines take a life-course approach, updating the guidelines for adults, children and young people and including guidelines for early years and older people.

The UK CMOs recommend that adults should achieve at least 150 minutes of at least moderate intensity physical activity a week, it recognises the comparable benefits of achieving 75 minutes of vigorous intensity activity. The CMOs also recommend that children and young people should achieve a total of at least 60 minutes of at least moderate intensity physical activity each day. Start Active, Stay Active6 includes the guidelines for early years, encouraging physical activity from birth and for at least 180 minutes a day for those who are able to walk.

It also includes guidelines on reducing sedentary behavior for all age groups. Start Active, Stay Active supersedes the CMO’s previous report (in 2004) on At least 5 a week: Evidence on the impact of physical activity and its relationship to health.  View national Statistics document

Lez’s training is amazingly easy to carry out (although you have to work at it!) and can be done in 10 minutes every day (or twice a day for better results).
